October/November

October Cottonwood tournament was held October 16th & 17th, the weather was terrific for tennis, thank you to all that helped during this weekend. Congratulations to all the winners.

The Youth Camp is still going strong. Evelyn and Janet would like to say a "great big" THANK YOU to  some of the High School kids that have been coming out and volunteering with us. Lily Burling, Kiah Westover, Tyden Spencer and Tristen Montoya, they truly have been a blessing and the kids are really enjoying getting to know them. FYI: We will not meet the week of Thanksgiving, we will meet the first 2 weeks in December which will wind up our Fall Youth tennis program.

NOVEMBER is election month. As you all know we stopped play days because of Covid-19. This year we were able to replace them them with several ATA Exchanges and they have been going very well. The Annual election meeting will take place at the tennis courts on December 11th. There are 2 positions that will need to be filled, please let your current board know if you are interested in putting your name in, you can also email atatennis@gmail.com. Further details will be given at the Annual Meeting, and/or by email.

Soon after the Annual Meeting / tennis play, a Voting email will be sent to the Membership with the Slate of Nominees, and repeat instructions about voting.  Once the votes are officially tallied, the Membership will be notified of the results by email.

After the Annual Meeting we will have tennis play—either the usual or if there is a larger crowd we could do a Game Day as we had last year. Turkey and Ham prizes will be given out, and this may hinge on individual scores achieved during tennis play. Please come for a good time for one and all !!

The last 2 years during this Pandemic have certainly changed the way we have gone about our tennis days. Not having "play days" and large celebrations on or off the courts has been challenging for everyone and some more than others don't understand why we as your board have been diligent in following the guidelines put into place by our Governor, SAFETY has been our main concern, we can only hope that 2022 will be a healthier, happier year for everyone.

September and October happenings

What a great turnout for tennis this Saturday, September 18, 2021. Thanks to all the players that came out, we had 6 courts going until 12:00ish, beautiful morning to mingle with our LCTPA friends and members. Great job Candace, Greg, Janet, Sintra, Joe and Sal and Shane for helping with the setup and take down, greatly appreciated. Thank you Patsy for your delicious garden watermelon. (see pictures below).

The Youth Tennis camp (fall session) run by Evelyn and Janet has started back up this month. We've had great turnouts, we've split the groups into 2; Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 are the 8 and under group and Thursday 9 and older runs from 4:00-5:30. We have been so lucky to have some of the HS tennis players come out and help and we are truly grateful as we have been having large groups for both days. Thank you Lily Burling, Kiah Westover, Tristen Montoya and Braydon Money when they can.

October: Tennis tournament is October 16th & 17th, you can register by going to TennisLink.com to register, the tournament number is: 21-64726.

October Exchange: there will be an LCTPA & Alamogordo exchange in Las Cruces, 10/23, more details to follow. If you are interested, please let a board member know, having a rough estimate is very helpful in the planning of these exchanges.

League Tennis and more

High School tennis will begin the week of April 18th, with 2 home matches; April 21st @ 3:00pm (all courts unavailable from 1:00pm on) and April 24th @ 11am (all courts are reserved and unavailable from 9:00am til 6:00pm), please come and support Tiger Tennis. All players, coaches and supporters must wear a mask. We have a great group of young players, we are very excited to see them all in action.
The coaches want to give a HUGE heartfelt shout out to Joseph and Lisa Westover for their enormous donation to Tiger Tennis.

The 40 & Over Women's tennis team are headed to Tucson June 18- 20 for their Sectional Tournament. Our 3.5 Women's team is captained by Janet Santackas and our 3.5 Men's team is captained by Andy Michnovicz. Congratulations to all of the players and good luck at Sectionals. Also at sectionals, SWS is planning on having a wheelchair tennis exhibition just before the morning matches at 40 & Over Sectionals. So please, if you are at sectionals to play or just to watch, come out early and watch and support some of our SWS wheelchair tennis players.

Soon to begin here in Alamo is "Continuous Mixed doubles". Carl Jones will be running this and more info will be coming out very soon, hopefully lot of ATA members will sign up to play.

Next up is the 55 & Over league, which will start approximately early May, more info will be coming soon. Sectionals for the 55 & Over will be held in El Paso at the El Paso Tennis Club September 10-12, 2021. Nationals for 55 & Over will be held in October in Orlando on clay.

Mixed leagues will start up in June and run partially alongside our 55 & Over league. It will run for several months so any players that have summer travel plans can still have opportunities to get some league matches in. In the past few years we have only been able to field two or three 40 & Over Mixed teams. This year they would love to be able to run an 18 & Over Mixed league! All Mixed leagues have Sectionals Sept. 24-26, 2021 in Surprise, AZ with Nationals to be held in late Oct. or early Nov., depending on NTRP level, in Surprise, AZ as well.

Happy belated birthday to all the January folks. Happy birthday to all you February folks and Happy Valentines Day to everyone.

What’s new: Candace Cormie and Carl Jones are our newest board members. We are very excited about the future of the ATA and look forward to lots of tennis fun. As you all know, Covid-19 restrictions continue to dictate our social gatherings within the ATA, we are hoping things will change for the positive very soon.

ATA dues: deadline was January 31st, you can give your dues to any board member, or you can you’re your dues to ATA PO Box, 684, Alamogordo, NM 88310, or you can drop your dues in an envelope into the new secure lock box at the main shed.

Used tennis balls: if anyone has a need for used tennis balls, we always have an abundance of them in the shed. Please contact a board member if you’d like some.

Night time tennis: is anyone interested? If so, please email us.

Ladder tennis: is anyone interested in playing? If so, please contact Carl at CJTS1up@gmail.com or email the ATA. We have done ladder tennis in the past, basically your goal is to work your way up the list of players by challenging someone, should you challenge and win, you'd take the spot of the player you beat. (More explanation is available if necessary).
