Tournament Results

Rick Alarcon of El Paso defeated Cameron Brace-Emmert of Alamogordo 6-3 6-2 in the men's open final of the Alamogordo Tennis Association tennis tournament this past weekend. It was high quality, hard-hitting match and very much appreciated by the spectators.

Tournament director Grady Nicholson expressed his gratitude to Dr. Terry Marquardt, the event sponsor and all others who helped this year.

That was just a small part of the action of the tournament, however, since a total of twenty-four different competitions took place, some based on age category and others on skill level.

Here are some more scores from the event:

Men's open doubles competition saw Rick Alarcon and Eric Sasser take first and Cameron Brace-Emmert and Dennis Johnston take second.

In the women's open, Laurie Frappier won the round robin competition, with Victoria Griffith second.

In the mixed doubles open, Jim Gonzalez and Valerie Stuart d. Linda Moya and Richard Vickrey 3-6 6-3 6-1

I have received and made several corrections to the ATA Mailing list. A revised list will be mailed out soon!

Las Cruces Exchange

At 9:00 am on May 14, there will be an exchange with the Las Cruces Tennis Association. Many ATA players are anxious to play Cruces again.

Evelyn Genta has once again volunteered to coordinate this event. Please give her as much advance notice as possible if you will be available to play. Evelyn could also use volunteers to help coordinate this event.

Senior Olympics

A note from Grady Nicholson about Senior Olympics:
Sign-up forms are now available for Senior Olympics at the Senior Center; complete the forms at the Center or take with you...due by April 12, 5 pm. The form must be notarized, which is free at the Center, Front Desk. Fee to compete is $15.
Local competition is the week starting April 18. I'll notify all re who plays whom, and then work out a schedule suitable to all. The first 6 qualifiers in each event are eligible to go to State, but not required to go (very hard not to qualify!). State will be in Las Cruces, 27-30 July (tennis may not require all four days).
