Kidz Tennis Club 2019

Kidz Tennis Club News

Kidz Tennis Club finished 2019 meetings mid-November with the typical warm ups, drills, then play, culminating with prize bags for all. Best attendance awards went to Lucas, Bella, and Noelia. Special thanks to those that helped:  John, Joe, Gail, ST, and parents, and to the ATA. Some kids were missing from our final day of 2019, those that were there had a great time. This club is open to kids from about 4th through 8th grades.  We will be starting up again in January.

2019 Southern NM Champs

Great news to share with you all. Gail, Janet and Linda played on a 3.5 40 & over women's team and Gail and Janet just finished a weekend at Sectional's in Albuquerque where they won it all. This team captained by Jacquie Porter and Maggie Folin of Las Cruces have been playing at this sectional's for years (1 gal has gone 15yrs in a row) and she is so thrilled with her win. This means this team is off to Oklahoma City in October for National's where we will play amongst the best of the best from all over. Very excited to be part of this team and to report on this. It's an amazing feat and the Southwest USTA President Martha Trost couldn't be happier, she has informed us that our district will donate some funds to put towards travel expenses for our trip in October. Can't wait.  Look below for our scores, we haven't confirmed yet, but we're not sure if there has been a 5 and 0 at sectionals, how cool would that be. :)

Tammy Pickering (family lives in Alamo), Janet Santackas, Lene Loest, Jamie Borsodi, Maggie Folin, Jacquie Porter, Cindy McLean Blackman, Sue Tillery and Gail Richardson.
L.C. vs SAZ: 3 wins 2 losses
L.C. vs Greater El Paso: 3 wins 2 losses
L.C. vs NAZ: 5 wins 0 losses
L.C. vs NNM: 3 wins 2 losses
L.C. vs PHOENIX: 3 wins 2 losses

Gail and Janet showing their bling. :)

ATA February news

January's birthday gathering at Si Senor's was a big hit so February 12th will be the February birthday dinner, see you on the 12th at Si Senior’s at 5:30.
February play day: February 2, will be hosted by Laura, see you there.
The new shed should be arriving soon and volunteers are needed to help assemble the new shed. Please contact Charles or Fred, or any board member if you are able to help assemble the shed when it arrives on site.
Janet and Evelyn's new KIDZ TENNIS CLUB was a hit. They had a great turnout on the 25th despite at least a half a dozen who couldn't make it. They will be doing this 2x a month and they are quite excited about this program. February's dates are the 8th and 22nd.
SAFETY CONCERNS: Last week a tennis bag was stolen from the courts. Thankfully for quick thinking of parents and modern technology, the bag and its contents were found and the thief was apprehended by the authorities. We might want to keep an eye out for unusual behavior by folks we don't know while at the courts.
The Cottonwood Tournament is quickly approaching on March 23 &24 so be thinking of partners and spread the word. This is open to all players and levels so we look forward to another fun and challenging tournament.
As always, we would love to hear from all members with your questions, comments, concerns or things you’d like for the board to consider.
