HS Tennis has begun
Tiger Tennis team opened their season in Las Cruces, February 19 & 20. They competed in the Centennial/Organ Mountain Invitational (a lot of schools participated). Singles took place Friday and doubles were played on Saturday. Great job by all the schools and coaches as everyone was spread out between 3 locations. Results: the girls brought home First place and the boys took third, special congratulations to Eva Westover as she got the MVP, winning the singles bracket as well as doubles with her partner Evony. Great job Tigers, congratulations on your medals and trophy.
FYI, this coming Saturday, February 26th, all courts will be in use as the Tigers are hosting St. Michael's. If you can come out and watch and support some great young tennis players, it would be appreciated.
Construction is under way for the Barbara Springer memorial building near court 7, the bleachers have been moved and the area is fenced in. You might have to use the outside gates to get to courts 7 & 8.
February's play day was windy and a bit cold however it still took place, thank you Cormie's for hosting.
Stay tuned for more info.

October/November
October Cottonwood tournament was held October 16th & 17th, the weather was terrific for tennis, thank you to all that helped during this weekend. Congratulations to all the winners.
The Youth Camp is still going strong. Evelyn and Janet would like to say a "great big" THANK YOU to some of the High School kids that have been coming out and volunteering with us. Lily Burling, Kiah Westover, Tyden Spencer and Tristen Montoya, they truly have been a blessing and the kids are really enjoying getting to know them. FYI: We will not meet the week of Thanksgiving, we will meet the first 2 weeks in December which will wind up our Fall Youth tennis program.
Soon after the Annual Meeting / tennis play, a Voting email will be sent to the Membership with the Slate of Nominees, and repeat instructions about voting. Once the votes are officially tallied, the Membership will be notified of the results by email.
After the Annual Meeting we will have tennis play—either the usual or if there is a larger crowd we could do a Game Day as we had last year. Turkey and Ham prizes will be given out, and this may hinge on individual scores achieved during tennis play. Please come for a good time for one and all !!
The last 2 years during this Pandemic have certainly changed the way we have gone about our tennis days. Not having "play days" and large celebrations on or off the courts has been challenging for everyone and some more than others don't understand why we as your board have been diligent in following the guidelines put into place by our Governor, SAFETY has been our main concern, we can only hope that 2022 will be a healthier, happier year for everyone.

September and October happenings
What a great turnout for tennis this Saturday, September 18, 2021. Thanks to all the players that came out, we had 6 courts going until 12:00ish, beautiful morning to mingle with our LCTPA friends and members. Great job Candace, Greg, Janet, Sintra, Joe and Sal and Shane for helping with the setup and take down, greatly appreciated. Thank you Patsy for your delicious garden watermelon. (see pictures below).
The Youth Tennis camp (fall session) run by Evelyn and Janet has started back up this month. We've had great turnouts, we've split the groups into 2; Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 are the 8 and under group and Thursday 9 and older runs from 4:00-5:30. We have been so lucky to have some of the HS tennis players come out and help and we are truly grateful as we have been having large groups for both days. Thank you Lily Burling, Kiah Westover, Tristen Montoya and Braydon Money when they can.
October: Tennis tournament is October 16th & 17th, you can register by going to TennisLink.com to register, the tournament number is: 21-64726.
October Exchange: there will be an LCTPA & Alamogordo exchange in Las Cruces, 10/23, more details to follow. If you are interested, please let a board member know, having a rough estimate is very helpful in the planning of these exchanges.
