November Turkey Shoot Play Day

Ten players turned out on a rainy looking day to compete for the coveted turkey prizes.  Play was delayed a little to allow courts to dry.  Charles organized an effective system of play, and after three rounds, the turkey winners were:  Dave, Ron, Nori, & Melanie.  Congrats to them!!!  After a tie break spin of the racket, Cathy won a pumpkin pie for being a good sport! Thanks to ATA board for hosting and to Charles for running play.

Skillastics Grant Training

School Tennis Grant training, held on Oct. 31, was conducted by Mitch Joyce, an experienced teaching pro and USTA representative. Mitch presented an excellent workshop and taught attendees the basics of tennis. He showed tons of teaching games and tips for teaching the game of tennis with minimal equipment in a non traditional setting, such as a gym or blacktop,  We had a variety of people attending from private schools, Boys and Girls club, and PE teachers from all levels. The USTA Skillastics kits and curriculum were reviewed and are now available for use in school or after school sessions.     Special thanks to Linda for her efforts in organizing this special training event. Contact ATA for more info.

Kids Play Day a big success!

Twenty kids showed up for the Kids play day on Oct. 8.  They played 4 game sets with an ATA coach assigned to each court to help their games to run smoothly and correctly.  Prizes and food were offered and weather cooperated nicely!  Comments from parents were especially appreciative of the way coaches worked with the children on the courts during play. We’d like to thank ATA members Nell, Grady, Sal, Greg, Charles, Janet, Joe, Evelyn, John, and parents for all the help with this event.
